Nashik Kumbh Mela: Heli-Tourism Circuit Planned To Help With Pilgrim Rush

The upcoming Nashik Kumbh Mela is set to introduce a game-changing travel experience. Beyond the gathering of millions of devotees, Maharashtra is planning a heli-tourism circuit to make pilgrimage faster, smoother, and far more convenient.

Instead of spending hours navigating heavy traffic, devotees may soon have the option to travel between key temples by helicopter—cutting down travel time from hours to just minutes.

Seamless Connectivity Between Major Pilgrimage Sites

The proposed helicopter circuit will connect some of Maharashtra’s most significant spiritual and heritage destinations, including the Sai Baba Temple, Grishneshwar Temple, Bhimashankar Temple, Ajanta Caves, and Ellora Caves.

All these locations fall within approximately 150 km of Nashik, making helicopter travel both practical and highly efficient.

A Smart Solution For Massive Crowds

The scale of the Kumbh Mela is immense. Between October this year and July 2028, authorities expect around 90 to 100 lakh devotees, especially during major events like Shahi Snan, Amrut Snan, and Nagar Pradakshina.

With such high footfall, road congestion is inevitable. The heli-tourism initiative offers a smart alternative—reducing pressure on roads while providing a faster and more comfortable journey for pilgrims.

Faster Travel, Better Experience

Under this plan, new helipads will be developed and existing ones upgraded near key temples and tourist sites. This will allow travellers to move quickly from one destination to another, enjoying aerial views of rivers, hills, and towns along the way.

A ₹15,000 Crore Vision

To support this ambitious initiative, the Maharashtra government is investing over ₹15,000 crore in infrastructure, crowd management, and tourism development. Land is being identified near major locations for helipad construction and upgrades.

While pricing details are yet to be announced, the service is expected to benefit:

  • Pilgrims with limited time

  • Elderly travellers seeking comfort

  • Tourists looking for a unique experience

Having proven successful during the Prayagraj Kumbh, helicopter services could now redefine how devotees experience Nashik—making the spiritual journey not just meaningful, but also seamless.
